Celebrating Dilan Robles, Now a Project Engineer!
We’re delighted to congratulate Dilan Robles, 2019 Education First Scholar, on earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from UC Davis. Dilan’s journey was filled with challenges, and we are proud of his perseverance and resourcefulness—qualities that define an Education First Scholar.
Despite housing insecurity and a lack of support, Dilan graduated from Jefferson High School in Los Angeles in 2019. The Education First Scholarship provided crucial financial relief, allowing him to focus on his studies. Moving from Los Angeles to the agricultural town of Davis was a culture shock, but Dilan embraced the change. He joined Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity and LEADR, a support organization for first-year, low-income engineering students, utilizing university resources to thrive.
Dilan interned at PCL Construction over the summers in Los Angeles and was selected the “2023 U.S. Student of the Year.” His dedication led to a permanent position as a Project Engineer after graduation, showcasing his skills and determination.
Words of Wisdom
Dilan advises this year’s scholars: “Don’t be afraid to be out of your comfort zone, and don’t be intimidated by your class load—you belong!” His journey is a testament to the power of resilience and resourcefulness.
